Royal Enfield Himalayan 450
Starting at INR 3,05,736 ex-showroom Chennai (going up INR 3,37,036)
What this motorcycle is?
The Himalayan 450 is Royal Enfield’s second-generation Himalayan launched in 2024 on an entirely new platform. The bike is powered by a brand new 452cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, short-stroke engine (84mm bore x 81.5mm stroke), producing 40 PS of power at 8,000 RPM and 40 NM of torque at 5,500 RPM.
The Himalayan 450 further gets full LED lighting consisting of a circular LED headlight, LED tail light, and LED indicators. It has a 17-litre fuel tank and a round TFT console with full map integration.
As an all-new motorcycle, the Himalayan 450 stands on a brand new twin-spar steel frame which is narrower and stronger than before for improved control in a variety of riding conditions. At the front, there’s a pair of Showa upside-down forks (non-adjustable) and a Showa shocker at the back which is preload adjustable. The bike rides on a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tyre. The new rear shocker is mounted horizontally on a new linkage setup.
The Himalayan 450 is a remarkable improvement over the previous Himalayan. The ride quality is one of the best in its category and the same can be said about its handling, comfort, and braking power. We do feel it is still the best motorcycle that Royal Enfield has built so far.
Does the Himalayan 450 has any rivals?
Yes, the RE Himalayan 450 has at least two direct rivals at the moment - the KTM 390 Adventure and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300. The Himalayan 450 is priced between INR 3,05,736 and INR 3,37,036 (Mana Black edition) while the KTM 390 Adventure lineup is priced at INR 3,28,018 (390 Adventure X) and INR 3,96,744 (390 Adventure with tubeless spoke wheels). The Kawasaki Versys-X 300, on the other hand, falls right in the middle at INR 3,49,000.
There are other adventure motorcycles that riders consider from neighbouring categories, like the Hero XPulse 210, Suzuki V-Strom SX (250), Honda NX500, and the latest TVS Apache RTX. Among all these, the Kawasaki and the Honda are equipped with parallel-twin engines and the rest are single-cylinder motorcycles.
