What this motorcycle is?
The current generation of KTM 390 Adventure lineup is the second-generation launched in 2025. It is built on an all-new engine and chassis platform and shares nothing from the previous generation of the 390 Adventure.
The all-new 398.63cc engine replaces the old 373cc unit. It is still a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve engine and produces 46 PS of power at 8,500 RPM and 39 NM of torque at 6,500 RPM.
The fact that the engine is new and has higher cubic capacity makes it more tractable than before (although it is not really flexible and doesn’t like lower revs) and it is able to carry higher speeds with comparatively lesser stress. However, as a high-performing single, the engine maintains its raw character which may often feel crude to some riders. That said, it’s an engine that has a huge fan base and is undoubtedly the fastest single-cylinder engine in its category.
The 390 Adventure also gets fresh design with a rally-style twin-headlight stack making up the front. The motorcycle is slimmer than before enhancing rider control. It also gets a single, long step-type seat for the rider and the pillion, and yes, it is also slimmer.
The 390 Adventure X is the cheapest in the lineup and gets 17-inch rear and 19-inch front alloy wheels while the 390 Adventure R and the 390 Adventure get 18/21 and 17/21 rear/front wheels combo, respectively. Additionally, the 390 Adventure (top variant) gets tubeless spoke wheels.
The chassis is also an all-new two-piece steel trellis frame with a side-mounted, almost-horizontal rear shocker allowing for a larger air box and accessible seat height. Coming to the suspension, the 390 Adventure X has non-adjustable 43 mm WP Apex front forks and a preload adjustable rear while the middle and the top variants get rebound and compression adjustability for the forks and rebound and preload adjustability for the rear shocker.
Does the KTM 390 Adventure lineup has any rivals?
The closest rivals for the KTM 390 Adventure lineup are the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300.
The Himalayan 450 gets 452cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve engine and the Versys-X 300 gets a parallel-twin 296cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve engine. The Himalayan puts out 40 PS of power at 8,000 RPM and 40 NM of torque at 5,500 RPM. The Versys puts out 39 PS of power at 11,500 RPM and 26 NM of torque at 10,000 RPM.
